BROWN GIRLS DO IT TOO
Rubina Pabani & Poppy Jay
Podcasters (she/her)
For most Asian girls, openly chatting about sex is firmly off limits. Enter Poppy Jay and Rubina Pabani, creative powerhouse and co-hosts of the award-winning podcast, Brown Girls Do It Too.
Fierce, funny and wonderfully frank, Poppy and Rubina have sex and aren’t ashamed to talk about it. Brown Girls Do It Too has amassed podcast fans who love their honesty and openness, whilst also facing enormous backlash online for breaking the silence on sex in Asian communities. Their stage show, Brown Girls Do It Too: Mama Told Me Not to Come, debuted in 2022, where Poppy and Rubina reflect on what it means to be Brown, British women. The show returns with Poppy and Rubina’s characteristic candour and quick wit in 2023 at Soho Theatre.
Poppy is a BAFTA nominated director, an award-winning podcaster and has recently made her debut on stage as a performer. She has produced and directed observational docs, specialist factual and worked on current affairs. She is known for her provocative and controversial narratives and character led storytelling.
Rubina is a producer and podcaster, most well known for co-hosting, Brown Girls Do It Too. She is also Head of Short Form Content at ITN Productions and recently a new Mum. When not working, Rubina loves a sea swim, listening to rap music and hanging out with family.
