Our energy system is broken – and this is how we fix it | Felix Wight | TEDxLondon
Energy bills have more than doubled in the UK and many people for the first time are deeply worried about how they will pay for their bills. Sadly, for many, 2022 won’t be the first time that they have worried about how to heat their homes and feed their families. Felix Wight, the Technical Director of Repowering London, is asking why are energy bills so high – especially when solutions are already here? In this powerful talk, Felix explains why our current energy system is failing and how the community energy model shows us a way forward. Through the story of a local community project in Brixton, London that is successfully using renewable, community owned energy to power local homes and businesses, Felix shows the power of changing the ownership of energy. He believes community owned energy will not only drastically reduce energy bills, but also help save the planet. Felix is Technical Director and interim CEO of Repowering London. Since 2011, Repowering London has empowered communities to fund, install and manage their own clean, local energy. Felix is responsible for the development of new business models that integrate emerging technologies with positive social impact. Previously Head of Development at Community Energy Scotland, he has overseen the installation of more than 20 megawatts of community-owned generation capacity during his career. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
