While serving a prison sentence, Lady Unchained was constantly told that she would never amount to anything. Instead of giving up on herself, she began to write poetry, channelling her pain into creative expression. After her release, inspired by her mission to prove there is life after prison, she founded Unchained Poetry, a platform for artists with experience of the criminal justice system. Through her work, Lady Unchained wants to prove that it’s possible to move on from a traumatic past and take steps to becoming unchained for good. Inspired by her mission to prove there is life after prison, Lady Unchained founded Unchained Poetry, a platform for artists with experience of the criminal justice system. Lady Unchained also hosts Unchained Nights, a night of inspirational storytelling through poetry and music and works with a number of charities, including Body and Soul, Working Chance and Safe Ground. She also co-hosts the National Prison Radio’s show We Are Straightline, a show about getting out of prison and staying out of prison. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
