Maximilian studied Design and Communication Strategy at HS Augsburg and Fine Arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna in Italy. His work investigates natural processes and translates them into visual form, exploring existential and ecological questions about evolution and the relationship between humans and nature.
A central element of his practice is Naturantypie, a technique he developed to record the movements and traces of insects as well as other natural phenomena. Ultra-sensitive coatings on paper are displaced by their activity, revealing patterns that expand the concept of drawing beyond traditional tools. By introducing barriers, scents or light sources, Prüfer subtly guides these traces — transforming instinctive behaviour into visual narratives.
Outside of his artistic work, Maximilian enjoys snorkeling in rivers, biking, hiking, boxing and spending time in the forest.
