Women’s crafts have often been dismissed as frivolous or meaningless, ignoring the stories and histories they hold within. Yet as medical student and women crafts enthusiast Nyneisha Bansal shows us, there is much more to crafts than meets the eye. Sharing stories from across history, the world and her family, Nyneisha shows how women’s crafts have been used to build identity, shape society and pass down wisdom and heritage.
Nyneisha is a third-year medical student at the University of Cambridge and her passion lies in the intersection between storytelling and craft. She was taught crochet by her great-grandmother who showed Nyneisha that handmade objects are vessels of memory and connection. She now crochets to raise awareness of how creativity can foster healing and bring people together.
