Civil engineer, Gemma Andrews, wants us to celebrate the quiet, invisible and dependable infrastructure that makes our lives easier – and is helping combat the effects of climate change. Using examples from around the world, such as smart motorways in Kuala Lumpur and clever cooling systems in Toronto, Gemma shows that the infrastructure we take for granted is protecting communities across the world. With the construction sector contributing around 30% to global carbon emissions, it’s more than important than ever that we build smart to protect people and the planet.
A designer, builder, and problem-solver, Gemma is a Principal Civil Engineer with a career spanning large-scale energy, transport, and urban development projects. Gemma is an advocate for celebrating the unsung engineering marvels that create safe and sustainable societies, especially in the face of climate change.
