100 days after the new UK government begins, we’re bringing the next generation of young storytellers together to reimagine how democracy can better serve young people.

Our special, one-day TEDxLondon Democracy Bootcamp aims to upskill the next generation of storytellers and explore how politics can work better for young people. If you have an idea on how democracy can better serve you and your peers, we want to hear from you!

DEMOCRACY AND YOUNG PEOPLE

This year over 2 billion people will go to the polls across the globe. It’s the ultimate test to see if democracy can survive in a world of disinformation, polarisation and low trust in politics and politicians. Yet the people most affected by these decisions are some of the most underrepresented: young people.

Young people’s futures hang in the balance of who wins elections – will these politicians serve the needs of young people? Will young people continue to enjoy the benefits of democracy like previous generations? We want young people to have their say, to feel like their voices matter and to feel empowered to enter political spaces and conversations.

THE BOOTCAMP

If you’re successful, you’ll be invited to a full day bootcamp run by TEDxLondon, alongside our civil society partners Civic Power Fund and The Politics Project.

You’ll have a chance to develop your skills from industry experts and connect with peers. You’ll also receive dedicated support on how to develop your ideas, through peer coaching, so you feel confident putting your idea into action. Our aim is that you’ll leave feeling empowered and confident to take the next steps in realising your idea worth spreading.

APPLYING

We’re looking for young storytellers to share an idea that reimagines democracy – whether that’s mobilising your community around a particular issue, helping young people have agency in building our collective future, tackling apathy around politics or more.

The bootcamp is open to all young people based in the UK, aged 16 to 24, who want to build new skills in public speaking, confidence, and storytelling. Remember, you must be available on Saturday 12 October from 10:00-16:00 to take part.

In particular, we’re interested if you have ideas about:

– How we come together and show up for fellow citizens and our communities
– Solutions to apathy around democratic, political and civic systems of power
– What our politics and politicians look like in the future
– How young people can make a difference and have agency in building our collective future
– The power of mobilising local communities to achieve the specific goal
– Projects, experiments or ideas that build young people’s civic participation
– New ways to solve a wider issue that is important to their local community

Please do not submit ideas that are inaccurate, advertise a specific company or product, or are purely inspirational or motivational talks.

Applications are open: 9 July – 16 Aug (11:59pm).

TEDxLondon is an inclusive community. We welcome people from all backgrounds and ages, genders, sexual orientations, races and ethnicities and people with visible and invisible disabilities. We are passionate and proud to reflect diversity both in our audience and on our stage.
