Why gender equality LIVE
Join TEDxLondon’s live recording of its chart-topping podcast, Climate Curious, where we discuss the link between environmental crises and gender equality, and what we can do about it, with special guest speakers Dr Faith Mwangi-Powell and Dr Amiera Sawas.
17 October 2022 / 6.30 for 7pm start, til 9pm
The Conduit, Covent Garden
Be a part of the special behind-the-scenes Climate Curious podcast experience as one of our limited in-studio audience. Bloopers, retakes, selfies… you’ll see it all with co-host Ben Hurst and special guest co-host, Daze Aghaji.
Leave your climate guilt, shame and rage at the door – this is a relaxed evening for people who may not have found their place in the climate conversation, but do actually really care about the world.
Less paper straws, more systemic change – we’re all about having your burger and eating it too, whilst getting a clear briefing on key climate topics – in a fun, down-to-earth and non-judgemental way!
WHAT WE’LL COVER:
- Why is climate change code red for girls?
- How does climate change exacerbates gender disparities?
- Why are climate solutions and gender equality linked?
- Why is girls education is a powerful solution to addressing the climate crisis, child marriage and breaking the cycle of poverty, all at once?

Faith believes that every girl has the right to lead the life she chooses. By ending child marriage, we can achieve a safer, healthier, and more prosperous future for all. Girls Not Brides is the only global partnership uniquely entirely focused on building a worldwide movement to end child marriage. As its CEO, Faith is responsible for catalysing the partnership and supporting the broader movement. She has over 20 years of experience in managing complex public health programmes and was the founding Executive Director of the African Palliative Care Association and the Global Director for The Girl Generation.

Dr Amiera Sawas
Director of Programmes & Research at Climate Outreac
she/her
Amiera has diverse experience in climate, environment and development research and programming work, across the private, non-governmental and academic sectors. This has taken her to various countries including Sweden, Pakistan, Jordan and Kenya. As a result, she’s really passionate about the potential of bringing diverse stakeholders together to combat climate change and set an inclusive vision for our collective future. She has worked extensively on participatory and collaborative research with some of the people most affected by climate impacts, with a focus on women and minoritised communities.
