DR WAHEED ARIAN

Emergency doctor, refugee & global health advocate (he/him)

NHS A&E doctor Waheed Arian is founder of the pioneering telemedicine charity, Arian Teleheal, and the mental health venture, Arian Wellbeing. Born in war-torn Afghanistan, his journey from the bombs and refugee camps of his childhood to NHS Innovation Mentor, recognised WHO Digital Health Expert, and adviser to global organizations and governments on the development of healthcare and education systems, is truly remarkable. Arriving in the UK as a refugee at the age of 15, barely educated but determined to become a doctor, he studied tirelessly to earn a place at Cambridge University.

Along the way, Dr Arian has been named a UNESCO Global Hope Hero and UN Global Goals Goalkeeper. In 2021, he was awarded Doctor of the Year in the Who Cares Wins Awards and one of the people of the year by The Times. He is the author of the memoir In The Wars: From Afghanistan to the UK and beyond – a refugee’s story of survival and saving lives.

Dr Arian relaxes by exercising, playing with his adorable kids and exploring new places with the family.
