Olio

Beyond The Screen

OLIO is a free app tackling the problem of food waste by connecting users with unwanted food (households or local businesses), with people living nearby who would like to have it. The pickup takes place neighbour-to-neighbour on the doorstep. Businesses take part via OLIO’s Food Waste Heroes Programme whereby volunteers collect and redistribute unsold food via the app.

Over the past 2 years OLIO has grown from a local initiative in North London to a global movement. We now have over 465,000 users who have together shared well over half a million portions of food – which is the environmental equivalent of taking over 1.4 million car miles off the road. Underpinning this incredible growth has been our volunteer programme, with 19,000 people and counting reaching out to offer to spread the word about OLIO in their local community, and rescue unsold food. Food has been successfully shared in 32 countries so far.

We are beyond borders

“I wasn’t expecting to feel so emotional today about real life stories. It was very, very powerful. Just get out there and talk to people. Get out of your comfort zone. Be more generous.”
