This year, for the first time, we’re proud to announce that we’re bringing a relaxed viewing experience to TEDxLondonWomen #ShowingUp on Saturday 7 December, called ‘The Relaxed Room’. This will be in the Purcell Room in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, next door to where the TEDxLondonWomen speakers will be performing live on stage.
At TEDxLondon we believe in improving access and enjoyment for all, and The Relaxed Room is a manifestation of our desire to make our events and ideas more accessible. Whether you’re a parent or guardian with a baby or young children, someone who may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of an event, or you need to move around or talk during the show, The Relaxed Room is designed especially for you.
The Relaxed Room will provide a welcoming space for our audience to watch TEDxLondonWomen via simulcast (a live video broadcast). Guests can enjoy the show without the usual restrictions we need to impose in our main stage area. The seating is auditorium style, and various viewing restrictions will be lifted in order to make this our most inclusive event yet. During our breaks guests will be able to meet the speakers and take advantage of all the activities available at TEDxLondonWomen 2019.
We are developing this ‘first of a kind’ TEDxLondon experience in line with our Accessibility Charter, and this is a learning experience for us too. The Relaxed Room has, first and foremost, been created with the needs of our audience in mind. We’d love to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions that we can consider for the future. Get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*Under 16s need to be accompanied by an adult. As not all content is suitable for children, adult discretion is advised and content warnings will be shared by the end of October, should this apply to you. There will be no problem for younger audience members to exit and re-enter The Relaxed Room at any time.
