Wendy Hanamura

 

Wendy brings 25 years of broadcast television experience to Link TV, where she now serves as Vice President and General Manager and produces a variety of programs. At Link TV, Hanamura ensures the constant flow of international news, documentaries, feature films and world music to 30 million households nationwide. She serves as Project Manager for Link TV’s collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ViewChange.org.

Beginning her career at Time Magazine, Hanamura moved into television production in 1985, reporting and producing news and documentaries around the world. She has been the Tokyo-based correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor’s nightly news, World Monitor, an anchor for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), a reporter for CBS’s San Francisco station, KPIX-TV, and series producer for the PBS station, KQED-TV. Her favorite project remains Honor Bound: A Personal Journey,a documentary about her father and his WWII march with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Her documentaries often focus on the personal story as it exemplifies larger issues in our society and have been awarded an Emmy, Gold Medal-Chicago Film Festival, Cine Golden Eagle and Chris Award for the best Social Issues Documentary.

Hanamura began her studies of the world at Harvard University where she was a phi beta kappa, summa cum laude graduate majoring in East Asian Studies and architecture, and went on to study architecture at the University of Tokyo. She is married to Michael Okagaki and has two sons, Jonathan and Kenny.
